Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College trained in general crisis management

A number of analysts from CRISMART and the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (SIIA)/Södertörn University) recently completed a three-day course in general crisis management at the Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College (MAFDC) in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. The course was attended by forty military and police officers from several Southeast Asia nations, as well as one representative of the Office of the Malaysian Prime Minister. During the course, the students heard lectures on general crisis management theory and practice, crisis communication, the possibilities and challenges of using expertise in crisis, and the role of symbolism and rituals. The students had the opportunity to apply their own practice experience and lessons from the course during several case- and scenario-based exercise opportunities.
