CRISMART/ISS seminar with Daniel Ellsberg
Tuesday, December 5th, 2006
Best known for disclosing the Pentagon Papers in 1971, Daniel Ellsberg will be in Stockholm next week to receive the Right Livelihood Award. On Tuesday, December 5th from kl 13.30-15.00 he will visit FHS for a seminar discussing government secrecy in matters of war, particularly the current situation with Iraq- often compared to the “quagmire” in Vietnam- and the looming military action against Iran.
Daniel Ellsberg has been an officer in the US Marine Corps, and a military analyst at the Department of Defense during the Vietnam War and an official at the State Department. He is a major historical figure that helped bring about the end of US involvement in Vietnam, and has carried on as an outspoken proponent of “whistle blowing” against secretive government actions.
