Managing Political Crisis in Bulgaria: Pragmatism and Procrastination

Editors: Kjell Engelbrekt and Markus Förberg (2005)

This volume contains four examples of modern political crisis management experiences in Bulgaria. These cases include the national political crisis in 1996-1997, the political consequences after Bulgaria’s first peace-keeping mission in Cambodia in 1992-1993, the Bulgarian government’s handling of the politically-sensitive closure of the nuclear power plant in Kozloduy as a part of membership negotiations with the EU, and the major protests against the appointment of a new manager of the Bulgarian national radio station in 2001. All case studies are written by leading Bulgarian academics and practitioners, and the book’s introduction and conclusion chapters focus on the model of politicization and mediaization represented in all these case studies.
