Eco-biological contingencies
Crises connected to ecological or biological causes have received much attention in recent years. This includes not in the least the threat that epidemics and pandemics pose. In today’s globalized and interconnected world with reduced distance and rapid transport of goods and people, local disease outbreaks can quickly have regional, national and even international consequences. Ecological and biological crises tend to spread across borders. The origin of a crisis can be in one country, but the consequences can be just as tangible someplace else. This creates an increased need for national and international cooperation. Methods for reading and reacting to early warning signals before they escalate into widespread crises are another prioritized part of this field of research.
