A great number of crises involve protecting large population segments from various types of accidents and natural catastrophes. Within the “first responder” culture there is much experience in handling these types of challenges. CRISMART’s studies however treat events of the scale where political, ethical or organizational decision dilemmas are introduced. In these cases, besides acute rescue efforts, questions of collective sorrow, the equal treatment of different groups in society and political accountability are taken up.
