Other regions and countries

To reach beyond the sphere of the Western world political and bureaucratic thinking, CRISMART has initiated several research projects studying crisis management in Asia and South America. It is clear that concentrating research within rather homogenous cultural spheres can lead research results in unwanted, narrow directions. For this reason CRISMART carries out research in these interesting environments, despite the inherent problem of trying to apply mainly Western and democracy-based theories to some of the societies in these parts of the world.

With the support of The Swedish Research Council, CRISMART researchers are now collaborating with Chinese researchers to document and analyze Chinese crisis management experience in general and the SARS crisis in particular. The Chinese research group is connected to Tsing Hua University in Beijing.
